2-car collision ends with 1 shooting victim in Santa Monica

Santa Monica police are investigating a two-car collision that left one person dead in the beach town on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were stopped by an individual who heard gunshots near the corner of 6th Street and Broadway at 3:42 p.m., according to a statement from the Santa Monica Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles involved in a collision and the occupant of one of the cars had sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Witnesses said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision shot the victim.

The victim was treated in a hospital. The other person involved in the collision was taken into custody and the pistol used in the shooting was seized.

No motive is known at this time, but according to the police department, the two people appeared to know each other.
