25 years later, ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron admits Jack could have survived

After 25 years of denial, numerous fan debates and some scientific re-enactments titanic Director James Cameron has finally admitted that Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) might have survived the sea disaster — but not necessarily by climbing the infamous door alongside Rose (Kate Winslet).
Cameron revisited the debate in the upcoming National Geographic documentary Titanic: 25 Years Later with James Cameron. Working with a team of scientists and two stunt performers, Cameron conducted experiments to recreate what hapless lovers Jack and Rose went through that night titanic sank, as well as solutions they could have tried.

While we took a first look at these experiments(Opens in a new window) new footage was shared in a glimpse from National Geographic two weeks ago Good morning America shows Cameron’s conclusion. It seems if the pair had both used the door just to keep their torsos out of the water, and if Rose had given him her life jacket to keep him warm, Jack would have had a much better chance of surviving.
“Jack may have survived, but there are a lot of variables,” Cameron said. “I think his thought process was, ‘I’m not going to do anything that puts her at risk.’ And that’s 100 percent character.”
Titanic: 25 Years Later with James Cameron will be published on National Geographic on February 5th.
