3 LAPD officers shot in Lincoln Heights

Three LA police officers were shot dead in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles on Wednesday night, according to a police officer.

Officers, including those in full tactical gear, swarmed the area around North Broadway on Mission Avenue where the shooting occurred around 6 p.m

The officers shot belong to the Metropolitan Division, according to sources. The alleged shooter was described as a suspect in a violent crime. After the officers were hit, other officers pulled them out of the line of fire, the sources said.

All officers were in stable condition and had undergone or were scheduled to undergo surgery, law enforcement sources said.

As blockades were erected in the neighborhood, a helicopter broadcast residents to stay indoors and lock their doors. A special weapons and tactics team with armored vehicles arrived at the scene just before 8 p.m

The three officers who were shot are part of a canine unit and were looking for a suspect when that individual opened fire, sources told the Times.

Two of the officers were removed from the scene in police cars because of their condition, and a third was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The LAPD issued a tactical alert due to the shooting, which allowed the department to keep officers on shifts.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
