Winning the WWE Championship can be the culmination of some serious hard work for a superstar. The moment they raise their arms after a game and the title is awarded to them can be one of the most satisfying of their careers.
Over the years, however, there have been a number of stars in the company who have won titles without actually having to fight for them, whether due to a newly created belt or a champion being forced to give up. their own championship.
Please note that these are four WWE Superstars who won the championship without wrestling.
#4. Asuka was awarded the Raw Women’s Championship after Becky Lynch announced her pregnancy
The most recent example of a superstar being awarded a championship without a struggle because it was Asuka on Raw after Money in the Bank in 2020.
The Queen of Tomorrow had won the event’s match the night before, clutching the briefcase that gave her a title match whenever she wanted.
However, reigning Raw Women’s champion Becky Lynch announced the following night that she was pregnant and would vacate her title.
Instead of creating a match for the vacated championship, Asuka was simply awarded the title after it was revealed to have been inside the briefcase she had won the night before.
#3. Ted Dibiase Bought the WWF Championship from Andre the Giant
True to his character, Ted Dibiase used his own money to get the WWF championship by paying Andre the Giant to hand the title back to him.
Andre had just won the title from Hulk Hogan when referee Dave Hebner counted the pins even though Hulkster’s shoulders were already three times ahead. This all leads to the plot of “Evil Hebner”, with the revelation that Dave’s brother Earl is actually the one controlling the match. But that’s a completely different story.
Andre immediately sold the title to The Million Dollar Man, and in three lingerie shows, Dibiase was named the WWF Champion and defended the title against Bam Bam Bigelow.
Not long after, WWF President Jack Tunney declared that Dibiase was not a champion and that the dynasty was worthless. The title was soon taken from him and a tournament was held at WrestleMania IV to crown a new champion.
#2. Rob Van Dam was awarded the WWE ECW title after his debut
When WWE decided to relaunch the ECW franchise, the company needed someone to represent the show.
They wanted someone to take the lead and be the face of the brand as a champion, but instead of holding a tournament to win, they simply handed the title to Rob Van Dam.
RVD, who recently won the WWE Championship from John Cena at ECW One Night Stand, is the first match champion for the ECW revival. Seeing him hold both the WWE and ECW titles is satisfying for fans.
It’s disappointing, however, that the brand didn’t give anyone on the roster a chance to claim the original belt and Paul Heyman just handed it over to Van Dam as some sort of prop.
#1. Triple H was awarded a new world heavyweight championship by Eric Bischoff
When Brock Lesnar, the WWE Unified Champion, became a Smackdown exclusive, Raw missed out on a world championship.
As a result, Eric Bischoff decided to bring back the famous “Big Gold Belt” that was used at WCW and NWA to represent their world titles. So, the world heavyweight championship was revived in WWE.
However, instead of forcing Raw’s top stars to face off against a prestigious new championship, Bischoff simply handed it over to Triple H. The brain killer was one of the company’s biggest superstars of his time. that point, and it makes perfect sense for him to lead. Raw brand.
With that said, watching him hand out the title left a sour taste in fans’ mouths, and it was the launch pad for what became the Game’s “Reign of Terror”.
