Wildfire smoke reduces air quality across Puget Sound this weekend
According to KING 5 meteorologist Adam Claibon, wildfire smoke will linger around the Puget Sound area this weekend and early next week.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Authority has issued a Wildfire Smoke Warning that will be in effect until midnight Sunday for the Puget Sound area. Air quality is expected to be moderate, but can become unhealthy in some areas such as Darrington and eastern King and Snohomish counties.
Smoke rises from the Bolt Creek Fire near Skykomish and the Chilliwack Area fire in the North Cascades. Winds coming from the east and northeast are moving wildfire smoke farther west of Washington. Read more
Mariners beat Blue Jays 4-0 in first Wild Card game
Seattle closed the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League (AL) Wild Card series on Friday afternoon.
The opening Wild Card round is a series of the best of the three. All three games will be played in Toronto (if needed).
The Mariners held a Wild Card game watch party on Friday and will host it again on Saturday. Potential Game 3 will take place on Sunday.
Games will be broadcast on MarinersVision, which the organization says is one of the largest screens in the Northwest.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visits Seattle
The First Lady, Dr Jill Biden landed in western Washington on Friday during a West Coast trip.
Biden will attend and speak at a financial event for Senator Patty Murray in Seattle at noon on Saturday, October 8.
Then, at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Biden will be at Seattle’s Pacific Science Center for a Coalition of Hidden Helpers event that will honor children in families. military and veteran care. Murray and US Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough will host the event with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Suspect in case involving woman’s remains found near UW campus has been charged
A 32-year-old man is charged in connection with the murder of an Indigenous woman whose remains were found near the Burke-Gilman Trail near the University of Washington campus in June.
On Tuesday, October 4, Seattle police arrested Charles W. Becker after they connected him to DNA evidence found at the scene. Becker was charged with first-degree murder on Friday, October 7.

Mobile clinic brings wellness to Port Angeles students
A new mobile health clinic is making its way to schools across Port Angeles.
It provides everything from immunizations to physicals, but the biggest need providers are seeing is mental health care.
The clinic serves students at eight schools across the Port Angeles School District.
Other districts have implemented clinics in some schools, but the fact that this clinic comes directly to students is a game changer.
It breaks barriers for parents who can’t miss work or have transportation problems – who are often on low incomes and are already prone to health problems.
Of the 31 appointments booked for the clinic this year, 29 were for issues related to anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or other behavioral issues. Read more
