7-Eleven employee shot on South 70th Street in Southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are searching for the gunman who shot dead a 7-Eleven employee Sunday night.

It happened just after 9 p.m. at the 2900 block of South 70th Street in southwest Philadelphia.

According to Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace, the 24-year-old male employee was shot dead after demanding ID from a customer who wanted to buy cigarettes.

“The customer started arguing with the counter clerk about this request for identification and for whatever reason did not want to present it. The counter person then said she could not sell tobacco products to these people without first seeing identification,” Pace said.

Police say the suspect then stuck a gun through the Plexiglas partition and shot the victim in the neck and arm.

The employee was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was placed in critical condition.

No arrests were made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 215-686-TIPS.
