Newcastle fans are now one step closer to seeing Garang Kuol in action for the Magpies.

The Australia international, who Newcastle agreed to back in September, played his final game for the Central Coast Mariners today, winning 2-1 thanks to a brace from Jason Cummings.

What’s the matter?

Well, Kuol is clearly a very popular character among Central Coast Mariners fans as they gave him a standing ovation in his last game.

As you can see below, the 18-year-old was applauded off the pitch by thousands before being hugged by Nick Montgomery and the rest of the coaching staff.

Isuzu UTE A-League commentators also seemed moved by Kuol’s recent appearance in Australian football, telling him to “go and make us proud” in Newcastle.

The talented striker, who is set to earn £25,000 a week at Tyneside, has captured the imagination and hearts of many in Australia.

Overall, the Khartoum-born prodigy scored six goals and provided four assists in 17 games for the Central Coast Mariners. Those linked with the club will surely be keeping a close eye on his development in England.
