Throughout his career as a leading man, Brad Pitt has embraced every hairstyle under the sun. Pro Barber Matty Conrad breaks down the inspiration behind each look — and more importantly, how Pitt’s hairstyle has inspired others.
“I’ve been working behind a chair at a barbershop for over 27 years,” Conrad said. “I can say with authority that the most common photograph I see behind a chair is of Brad Pitt.”
Typically, Brad Pitt’s hair changes depending on the role he takes on. Whether it was his leading man era in the 1990s, where he kept his hair long and beard for his role California or his Y2K cutting moment in Ocean’s ElevenMovie stars certainly never shy away from swapping it for a character.
He usually notices slightly longer hair, most notably in his role in the 2004 film. The City of Troy. The famous look is a combination of wig and wig borrowed from the makeup department. “[Long hair] Conrad said it was a bit of a fountain of youth for him.
In 2007, Brad dropped this for a Don Draper-inspired throwback moment as he stepped out on the red carpet for the first time with new girlfriend Angelina Jolie. Conrad said: “This is the look that Brad Pitt perfectly embodies. “These classic looking hairstyles have a slightly squarer build and are extremely flattering on the square jawline.”
But the roles weren’t the only things that inspired Pitt to forge a new style: “Throughout his career, it’s not uncommon for Brad Pitt to adopt a strikingly similar style to whoever he was dating,” Conrad explained. His 1997 blonde hairband definitely suited his then superstar girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow. Conrad said: ‘Even if Rachel’s haircut for Jennifer Anniston became absolutely iconic, he didn’t fall too far behind.
Regardless of his inspiration, the length of his beard or the color of his hair – one thing is for sure, Brad Pitt always looks good. “You can still see Brad through it all,” Conrad said. “For me, it’s a guy who looks completely comfortable in his own skin.”
