Here are this week’s top high school football games:
Santa Ana Mater Dei (2-0) at Corona Centennial (2-0), 7:30 p.m Centennial fans loved the game so much they sold out their tickets in 35 minutes. Centennial is known for its high-profile offenses, but in their last three games against Mater Dei, the Huskies have posted 16, 12 and 14 points, an indication the Monarchs have figured something out. Successfully running the ball will be key to Centennial’s sour hopes. Mater Dei junior quarterback Elijah Brown’s remarkable run continues. He’s 19-0 as a starter, and the Monarchs have developed some impressive new receivers, including sophomore Marcus Harris. The choice: Mater Dei.
Long Beach Poly (2-0) at Mission Viejo (2-0), 7 p.m The Jackrabbits defense rose to defeat Gardena Serra last week. It will be a challenge to take down the Diablos’ passing attack, but if the pass rush is effective, beware. Quarterback Darius Curry has a great group of receivers Mission Viejo needs to stop. Whichever team stops the big game should triumph. The choice: Mission Viejo.
