A SCHOOLGIRL who had to fight for her life after a horrific attack has now died.
Bonny Rae Barrow, 15, was the passenger in a van when it went off the road on Friday night.
It broke through a metal barrier from the carriageway of the A56 slip road and plunged into a steep ravine below.
Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident and the teenager and the 23-year-old driver were taken to the hospital.
Bonny Rae was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital and then transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital where she tragically died.
A 23-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The man also suffered serious injuries, including multiple broken bones.
The police are now asking witnesses to report if they have seen the Mercedes Sprinter van.
Sergeant Phil Baxendale, of the Special Operations Road Policing Unit, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family of the young girl who sadly lost her life.
“Although we have made an arrest, our investigation is ongoing and I would continue to encourage anyone who has either seen the crash itself, the van beforehand, or has footage that may be helpful to our investigation, to get in touch with us .”
Anyone with information should call the police on 101 and quote log 1253 of July 7.
