Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson on Texas School Shooting — Reaction

Abbott Elementary School Creator and star Quinta Brunson has a stomach ache — not only because of America’s “love affair” with guns, but also because of the apparent demand for her hit ABC comedy to address the gun violence epidemic in season 2.

On Tuesday, 19 children and two adults were killed when a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. (The 18-year-old suspect was also killed.) The tragedy marked the deadliest American school shooting since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre nearly a decade ago.

“It’s amazing how many people have asked for a school shoot episode of the show I’m writing,” Brunson shared Twitter Wednesday. “People are so far from demanding more from the politicians who elected them that they are demanding ‘entertainment’ instead. I can no longer ask, “Are you alright?” because the answer is “no.”

“Please use this energy to ask your elected official to come on beto time and no less,” she pleaded. “I’m begging you… I don’t want to sound mean, but I want people to understand the mistake of asking about something like this. We’re not doing well. This country is rotting our brains. I’m sad about it.”

Brunson first commented on the Robb Elementary massacre late Tuesday. “I’m sick tonight because of the love affair that America has with guns,” she tweeted. “I often read about gun violence. My city and my family are affected. Gun violence is a constant, everyday problem. Mass shootings are just part of it. Stop saying nothing can be done. When you vote, you demand more from the people you elected to change laws.”

Earlier that night, President Biden addressed the shooting in a prime-time speech. “We as a nation have to ask ourselves when in God’s name are we going to take a stand against the gun lobby,” he exclaimed. “When in God’s name are we going to do what we all know in our guts needs to be done? I’m sick. We have to take action. Don’t tell me we can’t control this slaughter.” Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson on Texas School Shooting — Reaction
