HONG KONG — Hong Kong police brought murder charges against a model’s former in-laws days after their body parts were found in a refrigerator.

Hong Kong model Abby Choi’s father-in-law and his eldest son face murder charges while her mother-in-law faces a perversion of justice case, police said in a statement Sunday. Authorities also arrested the woman’s ex-husband on Saturday but have not filed any charges against the 28-year-old.

The gruesome case came to light when police officers discovered the model’s body dismembered and stored in a refrigerator on Friday at a rural village house in Tai Po, a Hong Kong suburb closer to the border with mainland China.

“Police also found that the apartment was meticulously arranged by cold-blooded killers,” Superintendent Alan Chung said Saturday. “Tools used to dismember human bodies were found in the apartment, including meat grinders, chainsaws, long raincoats, gloves and masks.”

The 28-year-old woman has had tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars in financial disputes with her ex-husband and his family, Chung said, adding that “some people” are unhappy with how Choi is handling their financial assets.

The victim had been missing for days when police discovered a woman’s severed legs in the refrigerator, along with Choi’s ID, credit cards and other items inside the house. They also found human tissue in soup pots, Chung said. Police did not find the victim’s head, torso or hands at the scene.

The house where her remains were found was rented by her ex-husband’s father just a few weeks ago, Chung said.
