ABC says they made the decision to release an upcoming Backstreet Boys Christmas special after allegations of rape were made by a fan of Nick Carter.
A 39-year-old autistic woman claimed in a news conference yesterday that the singer raped her in a bathroom in the back of a tour bus in 2001 when she was 17.
A Very Backstreet Holiday aired on ABC December 14, starring Carter, AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough. Seth Rogen, Meghan Trainor, Rob Riggle, Nikki Glaser, Ron Funches and Atsuko Okatsuka were all scheduled to perform.
Carter has denied the allegations.
“This allegation of an incident that allegedly occurred more than 20 years ago is not only legally baseless but also completely false,” Carter’s attorney, Michael Holtz, said in a statement. “Unfortunately, for a number of years, Ms Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick – and those allegations have repeated and materially varied over time. No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer – there is no truth to that claim and we have no doubt the courts will be quick to recognize it.”
