PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – The secret of these top secret Philadelphia locations is out! Well, now the time has come – thanks to us.

1 tippling place is a quirky neighborhood bar near busy 20th and Chestnut in Center City. If you’re wondering “how on earth did you miss it”… you’re not alone! (I walked past it myself several times because the sign is really easy to miss, but that’s the whole point!) The walls are covered in decor like zebra heads and cozy furniture with crazy patterns to spend the night on.

I tried El Diablo (blanco tequila, blackcurrant, fresh ginger, club and lime juice), The Blackmail (white rum, lime, blackberry, champagne) and Tobacco Road (stirred scotch with an extra squirt of scotch on top). The house’s 432 whiskeys are more than I’ve ever seen in a single bar!

If you search the internet Franklin Mortgage, you are definitely landing in the wrong place. You’ll have to walk down Schubert Alley from 17th Street at Rittenhouse Square, and you might still have to annoy a few neighbors before you find the right door.

Inside, you’ll find a chic, dimly lit, multi-room lounge serving light snacks and perfectly formed drinks. I tried a gin cocktail called FVK Swizzle, a sour, smoky concoction of mezcal, grapefruit juice, and Thai chili called Per My Last Email, an old-fashioned peanut butter and jelly called With A Baseball Bat, and the doppelganger, a fiery version of a mai tai, this is officially my favorite drink on earth.

pen and pencilor what is affectionately called P&P by its visitors is next to a parking garage at 15th and Latimer and if you don’t see the neon lights they probably aren’t open.

This legendary bar has been around for 130 years and is members-only. But don’t get too excited about getting a membership soon, there are some restrictions.

Members must work in some capacity in journalism, entertainment, or the service industry, and there are different levels of membership as well. (So if you don’t know any of these people, you might be out of luck.)

I tried their main cocktail, The Emeritus. A perfect Manhattan from Bulleit Rye Whiskey. To future members: What happens at P&P, stays at P&P!
