AEW’s first Owen Hart Memorial Tournament is in full swing, with some great action taking place during the qualifying matches.
The event has been a huge boon for AEW and owner Tony Khan, who has (once again) shown that they want to celebrate old school excellence with new school talent. The tourney’s purpose is to pay tribute to Owen and his family, and so far, All Elite Wrestling has done an excellent job in delivering on that promise.
Compared to the Hart family tradition, there is a lot of technical wrestling and early grappling excellence. The FTR grapples with each other in a qualifying match that is essentially a shooting-style love letter taught by the family patriarch, Stu Hart.
It was a fantastic experience for the fans, Owen’s family, and the professional wrestling world in general.
With all the great names on the men’s ledger in the AEW Owen Hart Tournament, there’s only one question: Who will win first?
The easiest answer to this answer is Adam Cole. The guy who always explodes is the one who should raise the Trophy at Double or Nothing.
Make no mistake, there is still a lot of great talent in this tournament. Jeff Hardy goes up against Darby Allin. Samoa Joe, Rey Fenix and Kyle O’Reilly were also left on the field.
There’s also the issue of the Joker Card, which some speculate could be Claudio Castagnoli (formerly Cesaro) or possibly an IMPACT or New Japan star. While this would add massive value to the tournament, it’s unlikely that someone would win the whole thing by basically just walking in the door.
That is why Cole remains the most attractive opponent in this group. He’s crazy about the crowd, and he’s a reliable performer inside the ring. He is slated to become an AEW World Champion someday, and one of the steps in that direction could be to make history in the event.
This script will arrange everything perfectly for Cole in the future. He can then settle his inevitable feud with Kenny Omega back and can then focus on grabbing the big title. This entire tournament serves as a dual goal: praising Owen Hart and working on his foundation, as well as elevating the ultimate winner in the ring.
Cole was waiting for the right springboard in AEW, the moment when he really stepped up to the level of a franchise player. It’s as if he’s on top, and needs a little push to fully establish himself in the stratosphere of the likes of Omega, CM Punk, and Bryan Danielson.
Here’s the event and now it’s Easy, the first Owen Hart Memorial Trophy winner-turned-wrestler is Adam Cole… Fly fly!
