Toriyama published sand land from the year 2000 and tells the story of the demon prince Beelzebub, who goes on a quest with his friend Thief to help Sherriff Rao find a new water supply for Rao’s people. The manga was very short-lived, comprising only 14 chapters from May 2000 to August of the same year. It’s unclear why Toriyama and Bandai decided to adapt it now, but perhaps it’s just being used to introduce audiences to some of his lesser-known works.
