Akon was one of the few rappers willing to work with Tekashi 6ix9ine when he left prison.
In an interview, he says he advised the rapper to betray his co-defendants.
“I told him straight man your family is always the most important thing in your life. I don’t give a shit what the streets tell you,” Akon said, per HHDX. “If you have to do whatever it takes to protect your family, do it. It has nothing to do with being a gangster, it has to do with being a man and accepting the responsibility that comes with it, and if you have one take one for your family, then take one for your family, but if you can save your family, save your family.”
He continued, “Because no one does that for a road code, today’s road code doesn’t exist. It’s not like when I came up. There were real rules that real people follow, and when you didn’t, there were consequences. Doesn’t have any effects today so what the heck is a code? This code means sh-t. So save your family, I don’t give a fuck what you call it. Because man, listen, at the end of the day, how you are a man defines your integrity.”
Was that good advice?
