The Brazilian, who recently overtook Pelé to become his country’s all-time top goalscorer, came on as a second-half substitute in his side’s 6-1 win over Al-Riyadh.

Neymar was all smiles as he made his first appearance in the Middle East, but fans were left frustrated by an incident as he lined up with his new signings Aleksandr Mitrovic and Ruben Neves.

Ex-Fulham striker Mitrovic scored a penalty in the first half, while Yasser Alshahrani, Nasser Aldawsari, Malcolm and Salem Aldawsari also found the net.

Then, in the closing stages of the game, Neymar was presented with a golden opportunity to open his account for Al-Hilal when they were awarded another penalty.

But to the surprise of everyone present, it was winger Salem Aldawsari who took the lead.

The decision was met with a chorus of boos as home fans expressed their anger that the expensive purchase would not go through.

Despite the crowd’s disappointment, Aldawsari scored and Neymar quickly joined the celebrations.

This result took Al-Hilal to the top of the league and recorded their fifth win in their first six games.
