Alexisonfire dig deep on heartfelt new single ‘Sans Soleil’

Alexisonfire has released the second single from their upcoming comeback album – listen to ‘Sans Soleil’ below.

The Canadian post-Hardcore band’s latest track follows ‘Sweet Dreams Of Otherness’, the lead single from ‘Otherness’, their first long-running project since ‘Old Crows/Young Cardinals’ in 2009.

Harnessing some deeply heartfelt lyrics, penned by Gallows frontman Alexisonfire/Wade MacNeil, ‘Sans Soleil’ explores themes including love, hope, self-doubt and self-esteem support of others in dark times.

It’s easier to love others / It’s harder to be kind to yourself / To have someone by your side / You fell in love with me when I couldn’t love myself / I couldn’t love myself“Dallas Green sings in the second verse of the song.

Editor George Pettit said of the song: “Wade came in to write the lyrics for this song at the same time he was working on the Dooms Children record and I felt the same way. The Dooms Children album addressed a lot of Wade’s very personal things, and this song is definitely in that vein. ”

MacNeil added: “This song is about hope in the heaviest of times. Heal and let go. Dream of a future where all these hurts are behind you.”

Alexisonfire self-produced “Otherness” in about a week, after documenting at the Dine Alone Records club. This time, they wanted to treat the creative process as a “family affair”, choosing to work with collaborators who have been with them for many years.

“The biggest difference is the space we are all in. We were all really nervous about setting a record, and it was a respite from what was going on in the world. It feels like life can be beautiful,” says MacNeil. “We support each other. Everyone is in a good mood. It is such a treat to be able to do it again. ”

Pettit, meanwhile, said Alexisonfire decided to return with new music because they “didn’t want to be an act of nostalgia”.

“The only reason to come back is if we feel we still have something to say,” he continued. “We spent so much time on the road thinking that if we stopped people would lose interest.

“But as we go away, it just gets bigger. We’ve all forged new paths for ourselves, so getting back to Alexisonfire is an absolutely delightful creative undertaking. Something special happens when we share a room together.”

‘Otherness’ is out June 24 through Dine Alone Records – pre-order the album here. There will also be a vinyl version with a Gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeves that you can pre-order here.

Alexisonfire will open the 2022 Slam Dunk Festival on June 3 (Temple Newsam, Leeds) and June 4 (Hatfield Park, Hatfield). You can find more information here. Alexisonfire dig deep on heartfelt new single ‘Sans Soleil’
