Amazon offers same-day Prime delivery for select retail chains

Amazon is giving some Prime members access to another benefit they can take advantage of if they want to shop at a nearby store but don’t feel like putting on outer clothes. The e-commerce giant has announced that Prime subscribers in more than 10 US metro areas can now shop at select local brick-and-mortar stores through Amazon for same-day home delivery. Participating retailers currently include clothing brands PacSun, Superdry and Diesel, as well as popular vitamin retailer GNC.

To order from participating retail stores, customers can browse their curated selection in the Amazon app or website, then select same-day delivery at checkout. Amazon routes the order to the customer’s local store for staff to fulfill. An Amazon delivery partner then collects the order from the retail location and delivers it to the customer. Shipping is free on purchases over $25, but customers will be refunded $3 for orders under that amount. However, shoppers can also buy and pay online but collect their orders in person, which sounds like a great option if they just don’t want to browse the store and queue to check out.

As TechCrunch notes that this is the e-commerce giant’s latest move to keep up with competing services that offer same-day delivery, such as B.Instacart. It also ensures that it doesn’t fall behind the competition in any way: Walmart, for example, launched a same-day delivery service for local retailers last year. The new Prime benefit is now available in a handful of US cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Seattle and Washington DC. Amazon says it’s expanding to more cities and rolling out new retailers to the service in the coming months, including Sur La Table and 100% Pure.
