After nearly 10 million people watched HBO’s premiere house of the dragon, Amazon would like to remind you that there is also a high fantasy series coming out soon. On Tuesday, the company shared a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. More than anything, the clip is a showcase for the $465 million Amazon spent producing the show’s first season.
Dialogue from characters such as Galadriel and Elrond sets the stage for the conflict of the Second Age that is about to unfold, but it is almost secondary to the spectacle of the imagery shown. Each scene oozes with the money that has gone into the show’s cinematography, costume design and CGI. The Rings of Power will borrow some elements from JRR Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. As the title makes clear, the series will chronicle the forging of the Rings of Power and Sauron’s return to Middle-earth. Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay have outlined a five-season storyline. The first will debut on September 2nd.
