Amber Heard Responds to Johnny Depp VMAs 2022 Cameo After Trial

No surprises here. Amber Heard doesn’t have to say much about Johnny Depp’s appearance at the VMAs. A source close to Aquaman the star said she wasn’t surprised about the cameo after her sister called MTV on her Instagram.

A report by Hollywood Life revealed that Amber was not “particularly shocked” by Johnny’s appearance since she saw rumors going around that he would be appearing on the iconic awards show. However, her sister Whitney “was very angry about the whole thing and felt the need to say something.” The source said Amber has appreciated her sister’s support and “it’s really not surprising that Whitney spoke up because she knows her sister will always support her. Whitney still can’t believe Johnny is put on this pedestal and she feels terrible for her sister.”

Whitney wrote on her Instagram on August 29, 2022, “@MTV, you are disgusting and obviously desperate! I really hope that none of those making this call have daughters…” She also posted on her Instagram stories an image of the VMAs with a “D” in front to spell it out. “DVMAS,” which stands for “The Mistaken Acceptance of Domestic Violence Ratio.” Johnny appeared on MTV’s Video Music Awards as the Moon Man in a pre-recording with his face placed over a mascot model of the award ceremony.

Johnny won his libel trial on June 1, 2022, after he sued Amber for $50 million. The trial was held by Amber writing in The Washington Post in 2018 about her experiences with domestic abuse. No names are mentioned in the op-ed. However, many speculated the article was about her marriage to Johnny, and he asserted that this choice caused him to lose his acting job.

The jury ordered Amber to pay Johnny $10 million in restitution and $5 million in punitive damages for a total of $15 million. Due to the limitation on punitive damages under Virginia law, Judge Penney Azcarate reduced Amber’s punitive damages from $5 million to $350,000. Johnny, for his part, was found guilty by a jury of one count of defaming Amber and ordered to pay her $2 million and $0 in damages totaling $2 million. If Johnny and Amber compensate each other for damages, Amber will have to pay Johnny a total of $8.35 million in damages, equivalent to $2 million in compensatory damages he owes her.

Amber and her attorneys attempted to file a wrongful case due to juror’s negligence. According to documents obtained by People, the attorneys said that “based on newly discovered facts and information, Grand Jury 15 was not the individual summoned for jury duty on April 11, 2022.” They also tried to dismiss the verdict altogether when they deemed Johnny’s compensation “excessive” and “indisputable.” However, the judge denied this.
