American Idol 2023: Virtual auditions open for New Jersey singers

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Will the next “American Idol” come from the Delaware Valley?

The hit singing competition show is holding virtual auditions.

“We’re looking for the next American Idol through virtual casting,” said Nancy Yearing, the show’s executive casting producer.

Auditions have been virtual since the pandemic, but it has made it easier to reach more undiscovered artists.

“It makes it a lot more convenient for people to get to auditions than it used to be when we used to show up at a Philly park in our bus,” Yearing said. “You can audition from anywhere. I’ve had people from their jobs, from dormitories, audition in their cars as long as the car isn’t going.”

Although technical difficulties can present a challenge, a technical team is on hand.

“I’ve been on the show since 2007. And every year that I’ve worked on it, I think the talent is always different. You never know what you’re going to get, and these young artists just keep bringing the heat.”

Once you’re through the virtual auditions, you’ll face Katie, Luke, and Lionel.

Virtual auditions began Friday for New Jersey.

The Pennsylvania and Delaware auditions are scheduled for August 29.
