American Music Awards 2022: Wayne Brady preps for back-to-back gigs, hosting and competing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ finale

LOS ANGELES — The red carpet has been rolled out and the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles is setting the stage for Sunday’s American Music Awards.

Wayne Brady will take the stage to host, perform and add his own comedic touch to the evening. It will also be Take Your Daughter to Work Day.

“It means I’m in the same room with so many people I love dearly,” said Wayne Brady’s daughter, Maile Brady.

But with so many music stars in the room, who is number 1 for Maile? Turns out father doesn’t know best.

“Drake!” said Maile.

“Beyonce!” said Wayne.

“Will Beyoncé be there?” asked Maile. “I think she’s nominated, but I don’t know if she’ll be there. If it’s Beyoncé, I might not be able to walk because I’d pass out. I tremble when I think about it. I love Beyoncé.”

Wayne loves that he made the last four this season with “Dancing with the Stars.”

So while he’s rehearsing for both shows, his partner Witney Carson said she’s grateful Wayne made it through so quickly, especially with such limited time and a freestyle number that requires wowing the crowd!

“We’re going to do what we always do and that’s the focus on how we can show everyone what a great performer he is,” Carson said.

“The company mandate is: ‘Have fun!’ because when you’re having fun, the audience is having fun with you,” Wayne said.

The 50th Annual American Music Awards airs Sunday, November 20 on ABC.

The finale of Dancing with the Stars airs Monday, November 21 on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of this ABC channel.
