For people with high blood pressure, the risk of early death is halved if they drink more than 12 times a year.

Around one in four Britons – more than 14 million – suffer from the condition, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Experts in China say a lively atmosphere in the bedroom could reduce the risk.

dr Jiahua Liang said, “Sexual activity can have a direct protective effect on heart health, as can physical exercise.”

The study author added that sex with a steady partner may reduce stress, which “might improve cardiovascular outcomes.”

The team from Meizhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicines analyzed data from 4,500 Americans aged 20 to 59.

dr Liang wrote in the Journal of Sexual Medicine that other studies show that men with high sex drives tend to live longer.

Research also links regular orgasms to a lower risk of prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

But a recent survey found that the British are now having less sex.
