Angels right fielder Luis Rengifo has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against the Angels Cleveland Guardians after suffering what the team called what the team called a strained left biceps before his first at-bat.
Rengifo, who entered Thursday with a 14-game hitting streak, was warming up in the on-deck circle when he suffered the injury.
After one of his swings, he took a few steps forward and then leaned forward. He walked toward the dugout steps and leaned forward again before athletic trainer Mike Frostad and manager Phil Nevin rushed toward him. Eduardo Escobar, who had been preparing for his own strike near the steps, also went to Rengifo.
Rengifo then walked back up the steps to the dugout. Randal Grichuk took his place in the lineup.
Rengifo isn’t the only Angels player struggling. In addition to missing Shohei Ohtani (right oblique) for the fourth straight game, starter Mickey Moniak was injured three minutes before the first pitch because of back strain. Brett Phillips replaced him in midfield.
