Apple Watch Series 8 may be able to detect if you have a fever

The next Apple Watch will reportedly include a body temperature sensor that will alert you if you get a fever . The Series 8 doesn’t give accurate readings, but it can send a notification telling you to see a doctor or use a special thermometer.

This isn’t the first time Gurman has mentioned the possibility of the Series 8 with a temperature sensor. He first mentioned that Apple was already working on the feature, and reported that it would likely arrive with the company’s 2022 line of wearables. He retracted that prediction in January, warning fans that blood temperature monitoring is among a handful of skills that are still a few years away.

A few months later, however, he said the Series 8 would, provided the feature passed Apple’s internal testing guidelines. Now, in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter, Gurman writes that he thinks the feature is “a go” for the standard Series 8 and the often-rumored rugged edition that Apple is developing for extreme athletes.

Gurman says other changes to the Series 8 “will likely be minor.” He reiterates his statement and suggests that the wearable will have the same computing power as the and. He also mentions that higher-end Series 8 models could feature an updated display. Another device that will reportedly not come with many upgrades are the second-gen AirPods Pro. Gurman writes that they will not include heart rate or body temperature monitoring capabilities, as some reports have suggested. “I’ve been told that neither feature will likely be available in the 2022 upgrade, although both improvements have been studied within the company and may someday be available,” he says.
