Ariel Williams arrested: Driver charged after head-on crash kills child, injures several others in Newport, Delaware

NEWPORT, Delaware (WPVI) — Delaware State Police say a driver was likely disabled before a head-on collision Friday night in Newport that left a 6-year-old dead and several others injured.

The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on West Newport Pike (Route 4) near Gregg Avenue.

Police say 19-year-old Ariel Williams, of Wilmington, was driving a westbound Buick Rendezvous in the left lane when she went into oncoming traffic.

Their car then crashed head-on into an oncoming Toyota Corolla.

According to police, the 29-year-old driver of the Toyota was eight months pregnant. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Her baby was delivered in hospital and is also in critical condition.

Two other passengers, a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, were also taken to the hospital.

The 6-year-old, identified as Milani Carrasco, has been pronounced dead while the 4-year-old is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, everyone in the Toyota was buckled up.

Williams faces a long list of charges, including vehicle murder and driving under the influence of the combination of alcohol and drugs.

Neighbor Carl Jones says the whole Newport community is broken because of what happened.

“It sounded like terror. Boom. You knew someone was not well. It’s just awful,” Jones said.
