Arsenal legend Aaron Ramsey a surprise name in French club’s pre-season plans

AARON RAMSEY is expected to return to Nice for pre-season training next week.

The 32-year-old Wales captain failed to agree on the terms of a new long-term deal with the Ligue 1 club.

Discussions are still ongoing over Ramsey’s future options and Cardiff youth club are interested.

But as of this writing, the former Arsenal and Juventus star midfielder is set to return to the south of France this weekend.

A Nice statement on their official website read: “The remaining players involved in international matches over the summer: Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark), Aaron Ramsey (Wales), Khephren Thuram (France U21) and Ayoub Amraoui (Morocco U21) will join the squad next week.

The fact that Nice has included Ramsey as a player in his prep plans further complicates his uncertain future.

SunSport have tried to contact Ramsey’s representative to clarify whether he has agreed another 12-month deal with the French club after playing a certain number of games last season.

Ramsey has made 34 appearances, scoring just one goal – and Nice’s recent move seems to confirm that he is under contract with them.

As it stands, Ramsey’s future remains in the balance, but there’s still plenty of time to make a decision in the current transfer window.

However, if Ramsey is no longer a free agent, it could become more difficult for him to move this summer as Nice could ask a transfer fee, which could deter prospects like Cardiff.

Another option for Ramsey would be to walk out of his contract and forego any wages owed.

Ramsey has previously held talks with Cardiff and said he would like to return to the Bluebirds “one day”.

The midfielder would like to play his football closer to home as his family will remain in South Wales.

Ramsey joined Nice last summer after leaving Juventus on a free transfer.
