Arsenal now want a defender whom Antonio Conte has called ‘monstrous’ in the past, including Spurs

Arsenal could win the race to sign Milan Skriniar, according to Italian outlet CMW.

The Inter Milan defender has been linked with numerous clubs in recent weeks as he enters the final six months of his contract – notably PSG and Tottenham Hotspur.

PSG, as many will know, are linked to every single player under the sun so it’s no surprise that they’re mentioned here, while it’s also pretty obvious why Spurs have been linked.

In fact, Antonio Conte worked with Skriniar during his time at Inter and to say he was a fan of the centre-back would be an understatement.

He was a key figure in Inter’s title-winning campaign under Conte, while the manager himself has in the past described Skriniar as a ‘monstrous’ defender – and bestowed rare praise on him.

Conte loves Skriniar

The Spurs gaffer spoke highly of Skriniar while in charge of Inter after beating Hellas Verona.

“I am very satisfied with the performance, with what we have achieved. The game didn’t start well, on the contrary, it was in favor of Verona. They defended with two lines and followed their opponents on all sides. They often played 7: 3 on defense,” said Conte.

“It was’nt easy. We paid for a counterattack, then we managed to stay calm and clear. The lads were good, and in the second half we defended with a 50-metre pitch behind us.”

“I don’t like to talk about individual players, but Skriniar was monstrous. Bastoni is a 20-year-old developing in an impressive way. Stefan de Vrij was good too.”

It will be extremely upsetting for Antonio Conte if Skriniar ends up at Arsenal.

Conte has wanted Skriniar at Spurs for quite some time so he’ll be tearing his hair out at joining Spurs’ biggest rivals – especially as the Gunners already dominate Spurs in terms of Premier League standings.
