Arsenal want at least £42 million as Juventus chief holds talks with 24-year-old’s agent: Reports

Arsenal have paid a £42m fee for Gabriel Magalhaes with Juventus said to be in talks with the defender’s agents over a move.

The Brazilian centre-back has enjoyed a superb campaign in the Gunners defence, forging an impressive partnership with Ben White.

Gabriel, 24, joins Arsenal from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2020 for £27m with add-ons.

He made 69 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side, scoring seven goals and contributing one assist.

Despite his impressive start at the Emirates, he could be set to move on this summer with Juventus keen to bring him back to the Allianz Stadium.

According to the Italian news agencies Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport (via Mail), Juventus have been in talks with the defender’s representatives to try to pursue an agreement.

However, Arsenal are not willing to let Gabriel go on the cheap and are said to have placed a £42m bid for the Brazilian.

The old lady is trying to replace the legendary central defender Giorgio Chiellini. He will leave the club this summer after his contract expires.

The Gunners headed for Champions League qualifying just over a week ago. They lead rivals Tottenham Hotspur by four points in the North London Derby on 12 May.

But Arsenal surrendered, losing 0-3 to Spurs before then going on to lose 0-2 to Newcastle United four days later.

That means they will go into the final day of the season in fifth place, two points behind Spurs and facing relegated Everton.

Meanwhile, Tottenham play bottom team Norwich City have been relegated with the expectation that Spurs will take fourth place.

TWO!! Bruno Guimarães doubles the lead for Newcastle! Arsenal’s top four hopes went up in smoke 😮

This has greatly influenced not only the mood around Emirates but perhaps their future transfer plans.

Now they have to convince the players to be part of the Europa League rather than the Champions League.

Juventus have faltered in recent seasons, having dominated Serie A for the past decade.

Juve will finish in the top four this season as they sit fourth with one game remaining that will give Gabriel Magalhaes a chance to play in the Champions League should he go to Turin.

Massimilliano Allegri is looking to overhaul his team, where many players are nearing the end of their careers.

One of them is Giorgio Chiellini, who at the age of 37 is already a Juventus legend.

It seems they are intent on replacing the club which is in talks with Gabriel’s agent to bring the Brazilian to Serie A this summer. Arsenal want at least £42 million as Juventus chief holds talks with 24-year-old’s agent: Reports
