As Many as 80,000 Russian Troops Hurt or Killed in Ukraine, Pentagon Says

WASHINGTON — As many as 80,000 Russian soldiers have been wounded or killed in less than six months of fighting in Ukraine, the Pentagon said Monday, as the U.S. military first released its estimates of the invasion’s toll on Russia.

According to US estimates, Russia has suffered 70,000 to 80,000 victims. Colin Kahl, the secretary of state for defense policy, told reporters at a news conference on Monday. In the days leading up to Russia’s February 24 invasion, Western officials estimated that Russia had about 150,000 troops stationed near the Ukrainian border.
