Assistant QB coach Parks Frazier to call Colts’ offense

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have an interim head coach who’s never coached past high school level, and now they have a playcaller who’s never played his new role before.

Passing game specialist/assistant quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier will take on playcalling duties for the team under interim head coach Jeff Saturday, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday. The news was first reported by NFL Network.

Saturday said during a news conference Monday that he interviewed current employees throughout the day to determine who was best suited to be the play caller. The role was previously held by former head coach Frank Reich, who was fired by the team on Monday.

The team also considered quarterbacks coach Scott Milanovich as a candidate for play-calling duties, according to a source, before finally approaching Frazier. Milanovich was a play caller in the Canadian Football League and was a play caller for the Jacksonville Jaguars while serving as an interim play caller for the final five weeks of the 2018 season.

Frazier is close to Reich, an ordained minister who officiated at Frazier’s marriage. Reich relied heavily on Frazier while he was assistant head coach in 2018-19 before promoting him to quality control coach in 2020 and assistant quarterbacks coach in 2021.

Frazier holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and is recognized as one of the leaders in working with technology and data. He’s also worked closely behind the scenes over the past year — plus with Sam Ehlinger, who will continue to be the starting quarterback. The 30-year-old Frazier, a former quarterback at Murray State, brings experience to the position.

The Colts visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
