Asylum-Seeking Venezuelan Migrants Who Cross Border Illegally to Be Returned to Mexico

WASHINGTON — Venezuelan migrants who illegally crossed the U.S. southern border to seek asylum will be deported back to Mexico under a pandemic-era border policy known as Title 42, according to a new migration agreement jointly announced by the US and Mexico on Wednesday.

At the same time, the Biden administration is creating a new immigration program to allow up to 24,000 Venezuelans to come to the United States legally, to prevent them from trying to cross the border illegally, the announcement said.
