According to local media, 19 people were in the stadium at the time of the collapse, and four people managed to escape.

Officials said the rescue effort was complete but did not provide details of the victims.

Several Chinese media reported that most of them were students.

After the collapse on Sunday, a video showed that the roof of the reinforced concrete gymnasium was completely destroyed.

A witness told local media that there was “nowhere to hide from the gym collapse.”

China Youth Daily reported that the girls were training during the summer vacation because they were expected to travel to Hubei Province for the upcoming games.
