Aubameyang reacts to ex-Arsenal star Emi Martinez’s world title with Argentina

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stunned on Instagram by Tottenham transfer target Emi Martinez after the Aston Villa goalkeeper helped Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup final against France in an amazing way on Sunday.

The Chelsea striker explained that his former Arsenal team-mate “deserved” to be crowned world champions after Argentina defeated France on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 draw in Doha.

In what is perhaps the greatest football game of all time, especially at a World Cup, Argentina held a 2-0 lead with ten minutes remaining before disaster struck for the South American giants.

Kylian Mbappe scored from the penalty spot before scoring with a stunning first finish two minutes later to send the game into overtime.

The drama didn’t stop there as while Lionel Messi thought he had secured the win in the second half of extra time, Mbappe was back with a hat-trick to cause heartbreak but then Villa’s number one stepped up.

In the final minute of extra time, he thwarted Randal Kolo Muani with a close-range save to send the tie down to penalties, where he defeated Kingsley Coman before forcing Aurélien Tchouaméni to shoot wide.

Martinez was over the moon with his IG, and several of his current and former teammates praised him in the comments, including Aubameyang, who wrote the message below.

“Another incredible game,” wrote Aubameyang. “Deserving brother.”

As with the World Championships, the show’s heroes will be given the spotlight, with teams across Europe vying for their signature.

That’s what happened to Martinez, with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham showing interest in the 30-year-old.

Ironically, he is set to replace Hugo Lloris, who was on the other side of yesterday’s thriller as France’s 2018 world champions failed to stop a penalty.

Villa will be confident enough to keep Martinez, especially given that they want to go to Europe and his overly confident style is needed.
