Baby shot Philadelphia: Suspect in custody in shooting that left 10-month-old baby wounded in Kensington

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The suspect, wanted for a shooting during a wedding reception at a Philadelphia home in which a 10-month-old baby was wounded, is in police custody.

Police said Santos Diaz, 45, was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Diaz reportedly fired shots outside a home on the corner of East Ontario and Emerald Streets in the Kensington neighborhood around 10:40 a.m. Sunday.

The baby was being held by her mother when one of the bullets hit her hand.

The girl was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she was placed in stable condition.

The baby’s mother was not injured.

According to police, a 17-year-old suffered a graze on his leg but did not require medical attention.

“The person was part of the congregation,” said Lt. Robert Brockenbrough of the Philadelphia Police Department on Sunday. “There was a lot of gun violence in Philadelphia, so you just have to be careful. It started as a friendly meeting and escalated to this one.”
