This week on The Bachelorette, Gabby and Rachel had their much-anticipated fantasy suite dates. Some went exactly as you might think, while others took unexpected turns.
Erich and Gabby’s overnight date
The couple ponder their date in their hometown while lounging by a body of water in the middle of the jungle in Mexico. Erich says that his current health condition made it difficult to leave his father, but that his family was “obsessed” with Gabby.
When Gabby and Erich are offered the opportunity to stay in the fantasy suite together, they jump at the chance. Erich eventually tells Gabby that he is in love with her and doesn’t want to leave without her by his side. Unfortunately, Erich is increasingly bothered that there are two other guys Gabby could possibly end up with. Imagine being upset that your girlfriend is dating other men? Wait… I think he might be on to something here.
Aven and Rachel’s Fantasy Suite Date
Rachel says she could see life with Aven, but has to deal with the tough questions. She asks him if he could imagine getting engaged in a few weeks. To Rachel’s delight, Aven says yes – he’s 100% ready. She goes on to tell him that she is in love with him and that he is “the whole package”.
The couple spend the night together in the fantasy suite and smile all over their faces in the morning. Could Aven be right for her?
Tino and Rachel’s overnight date
After Tino’s bumpy hometown date, Rachel really wants the day to go well. She tells Tino that she is afraid to continue with him because his family didn’t like her. She also asks if he could go ahead with her without his family’s consent. He replies that it probably won’t be overnight (side note: judging by her hometown date, I don’t think her approval will get through to the end Year), but that they will eventually come on board.
Tino tells Rachel he is in love with her and Rachel says she loves him too. The couple sleeps in the fantasy suite together, and all worries about Tino’s family approval are forgotten (for now).
Johnny and Gabby’s date is called off
The day starts well with Gabby and Johnny sipping champagne on a boat and discussing how fast time has passed. Gabby says she hopes for a future with him, but those hopes are quickly dashed when she asks him how he feels at the end of her “journey” to an engagement.
Johnny dances around the question, but eventually tells Gabby that he wouldn’t feel ready to propose in just a week. Although it’s difficult, the couple say goodbye as they want different things and are in different places in their lives.
Erich begins to unravel
After Gabby is devastated by her breakup with Johnny, she receives a text from Erich saying he needs to speak to her. He starts rehashing much of what they seem to have talked about off-camera in the fantasy suite and says he feels he’s cheating on Gabby by going to the other sleepover dates that week.
Despite Erich repeating that he’s in love with her and is just afraid of losing her, Gabby feels like he’s pushing her to make a decision.
Jason and Gabby’s not-so-magical “fantasy” suite date
Gabby and Jason’s date night got off to a good start as the pair play a friendly game of tennis and talk about their hometown date. Although the day started well, Jason shares that he’s not ready to get engaged yet and feels Gabby doesn’t really know who he is. She is very upset by this news as she previously told us that she is really falling in love with Jason.
The pair decide to discuss things during the night portion of the evening – away from all cameras. After this difficult conversation, we find out that they have decided to end the relationship.
Zach and Rachel’s fantasy suite date
The final sleepover of the season is going to be a grand one, with Zach and Rachel enjoying a carefree day of drinking and dancing. They decide to stay together as a couple in the fantasy suite, but this is where things take a turn.
We find out that their overnight date was the furthest thing from a fantasy, making Zach feel like Rachel may have been putting on a facade the whole time. He seeks advice from our host, Jesse Palmer.
Zach tells Jesse that he feels taken by surprise and that Rachel behaved differently when the cameras were gone. He said she was very concerned about Zach’s age and wondered if he was really ready for engagement. You can watch Zach’s conversation with Jesse in the video player above.
Gabby tells Erich how she really feels
Meanwhile, Gabby decides she needs to tell Erich how she really feels. She confesses her love for him and lets him know that he is the only man left. Erich is absolutely thrilled to hear this and the pair share a heartwarming moment.
The Rose Ceremony
We’re finally at the rose ceremony, but this time it’s just Rachel and her remaining men: Tino, Aven, and Zach. Before it can even begin, Zach pulls Rachel aside to talk.
Rather than seeing the aftermath of this intense confrontation, we are transported back to an empty Los Angeles studio with Jesse Palmer. He gives the audience the most ominous warning of the events to come, but we’ll have to wait until next week to see what happens.
This is truly poised to be The Bachelorette’s most dramatic season finale ever. Tune in next week for the first episode of the two-day finale on ABC!
