Back to School 2022: New middle school opens in Villanova, Pennsylvania for 1,000 Lower Merion students

VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Tuesday is the first day of school for students at the new Black Rock Middle School in Villanova, Pennsylvania.

The school is for students from the Lower Merion School District in grades five through eight from Penn Wynne and Gladwyne.

Some of the students got a little taster last week.

Approximately 1,000 students will attend Black Rock.

Fifth and sixth graders report on Tuesday, seventh and eighth graders on Wednesday.

The starting days are staggered so that everyone can get used to the new building.

This year, there is a new class configuration throughout the Lower Merion School District, moving the fifth grade to the middle school level to reduce school overcrowding.

As for this new building, the gymnasium and auditorium are not quite finished but are expected to be ready next month. In the meantime, PE will be held at other locations on campus.

The opening ceremony will take place next month.
