If you’re angry at the world for its paradoxical reality, well, so is Gardenia. It is strange how the voice and sound coming from New York echoes an even more formidable arctic monkey. This burgeoning talent duo, with Ryan Zakin on vocals/bass and Tamir Malik on drums, formed in 2018 with a few EPs to boot. Zakin’s layered and purposefully abrasive voice makes for a rich whole that counters sharp staccato sentences and small-scale based riffs. Unapologetic, cheeky and brazen — their recent release, Smile for the camera
(2022),
whose beautiful orchestral instruments transform beautifully into loud rock on “Mattress Actress” into the catchy, catchy “Red Flag,” you won’t be able to take your eyes off.

Coming from Texas are the four giants Ting Tang Tina. They started playing shows for the first time in 2017 with a passion for indie rock. Singer Ruby Lewis has an old-school flair in tracks like “Heart Eyes,” while immediately shifting it to a vibrant feel in “Kill Courtney.” With two successful albums and optimism mixed with a sense of sassy in all of their songs, Ting Tang Tina won’t be on the radar for long.

Have you ever heard of The Strokes? The Voidz is a side musical project by singer/songwriter Julian Casablancas, created with members from both the New York and Los Angeles coasts. The American rock band’s forte is experimenting with a mix of what happens when Casablancas really does what he wants. Garage rock was popular in singles like “Leave It In My Dreams” from Germany (2019), while the classic lo-fi “Did My Best,” produced by indie legend Mac DeMarco, shines in its almost dark harmony and nostalgia.
