Bangladesh Investigates Fire That Killed at Least 41

Authorities are investigating security measures put in place to handle hazardous materials at a container depot in southeastern Bangladesh, where a fire sparked a series of explosions that killed at least 41 people and injured nearly 200, according to government officials and volunteers.

The first fire broke out Saturday night in a container of hydrogen peroxide in the town of Sitakunda, about 25 miles northwest of the port city of Chittagong, authorities said. This set off the first explosion at around 9:30 p.m., and several explosions followed in the hours that followed. The fire spread to nearby containers, including some containing items of clothing.
