Matt Hancock is the latest to get hooked Barbie Mania.
Hancock, 44, is no stranger to TikTok as the disgraced politician first joined the social media platform during the pandemic when he was serving as health secretary.
He has posted several videos on his profile which has more than 213,800 followers and 2.2 million likes.
In his latest video, Hancock pays tribute to Greta Gerwig’s recent blockbuster Barbie.
The film proved to be a huge hit with viewers and critics. Over the weekend, Barbiein which Margot Robbie plays the titular Mattel doll, surpassed $1 billion (£785 million) at the box office.
In it, Ken (played by Ryan Gosling) grapples with issues of self-esteem and identity. The whole thing culminates in a soulful ballad with the lyrics: “I am Ken-ough!”
Since the film’s release, fans have shared their own take on the viral moment.
On Sunday (6 August) the West Suffolk MP posted a video of himself on the beach wearing a white shirt and shorts and passionately lip-syncing to the song.
People reacted to Hancock’s video, which has been viewed 1.5 million times.
“He needs an intervention,” one person commented. Another added: “I know it’s a dumb season but Matt Hancock is taking it too far.”
“Every day in this country feels more and more similar black mirror‘ wrote a third person, referring to the hit Netflix dystopian series.
“The first thing I did when I woke up was TikTok. What’s going on in the House of Commons?” someone else added.
Hancock is no stranger to public disapproval. He was heavily criticized for his decision to appear in the ITV reality series I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here! last year.
Hancock resigned as Health Secretary in June 2021 after he was caught breaking the Corona social distancing rules by having an affair with Gina Coladangelo, his adviser at the time, in his ministerial office.
Hancock finished third in the competition, behind the winner, former England soccer player Jill Scott, and Hollyoaks Star Owen Warner.
