Accordingly SPORTSBarcelona are keeping an eye on the Nigerian midfielder and are considering an approach in the summer when he will be a free agent.

Ndidi’s current contract with the Foxes expires in June 2024, when Barca could sign him on a free transfer.

The La Liga team has struggled to balance its finances in recent seasons and has come up with the option of signing players without a transfer fee.

Although the potential deal appears to be a shrewd acquisition, fans were shocked at the idea that Barcelona could plunder the Championship for midfield reinforcements.

One fan shared on social media: “Masters of free transfers, Barcelona scouts are looking for players with only one year left on their contracts.”

Another seemed perplexed that Barcelona were after Ndidi, simply asking: “Barcelona??”

A free deal for Ndidi would be seen as a win for the club, who were valued at £70m in recent years, according to SPORT, when they contacted Leicester about a deal.

And they would beat out some strong competition for his signature, with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus all reportedly considering a move for the 26-year-old.
