Bass gains ground on Caruso in latest L.A. mayor vote count

Rep. Karen Bass has gained ground in the race for Los Angeles mayor but is still behind developer Rick Caruso, the latest election results show.

Results released Friday by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk show Caruso with 40.5% and Bass with 38.8% of ballots counted so far.

Election officials continue to count votes after Tuesday’s primary, an election that saw the first open race for mayor in nearly a decade.

Caruso was 5 points clear Wednesday morning but mail-in ballots show Bass is catching up.

Regardless of the final record, both are guaranteed a place in the November runoff because they led the field of candidates.

Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be accepted until next week.
