‘Be Kind’: Philadelphia stylist with JuJu Salon & Organics battling breast cancer holds free event for fellow patients

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A stylist in Philadelphia’s Queen Village neighborhood gives back while battling breast cancer.

Anjuli Hoffman was diagnosed in July at the age of 28.

Her mother, Alka, died of the disease in 2007.

Hoffman is a full-time stylist at JuJu Salon & Organic.

She knows how traumatizing it can be for both men and women to lose their hair during chemotherapy.

Hoffman has chosen to achieve a cold cap through her treatments.

The helmet-like device worn during chemotherapy uses cooling to constrict the blood vessels under the skin of the scalp.

This reaction can limit the amount of drug that reaches the hair follicles and causes the strands to fall out.

Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hoffman and her colleagues at the JuJu Salon offer a free hair wash and blow dryer for breast cancer patients.

Those who suffer from hair loss can opt for a head massage.

JuJu Salon & Organics is located at 713 S 4th St., Philadelphia, PA 19147.
