At 2.08am on September 24, police were informed that a woman, Charlotte Dodd from Congleton, had been found unconscious on the side of the road on Padgbury Lane, near Arnside Avenue.

Officers and ambulance attended the scene and Charlotte was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital where she sadly died.

Her family paid tribute to her, saying in a statement: “We have tragically lost our beautiful baby girl. “As a family, we ask that you be allowed to grieve privately.”

The incident involved a white Peugeot Bipper van and a 32-year-old man, known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and subsequently on suspicion of murder.

The man, who is from the Crewe area, has since been released on bail.

Detective Inspector David Hutcheon said: “Although it happened in the early hours of the morning, I would ask anyone who was driving through the area at the time or lives nearby and may have seen or heard anything to contact me.

“I would ask members of the community in this area to check their CCTV systems to see if there were any activations including audio recordings at the time.

“The same goes for anyone who has dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.”
