Below Deck Down Under Captain Jason addresses the troubling “consent” incident, thanks to the production

In the latest double episode of Below Deck Down Under, production jumped in after a crew member attempted to climb naked into bed with an incapacitated crew member without their consent, resulting in two layoffs.
Below Deck Down Under was a show that quietly did well for Bravo, didn’t draw much attention and provided just enough entertainment to keep it going. All that changed with an uncomfortable and powerful hour of television.
After a traumatic “consent” incident led production to intervene directly to protect an incapacitated crew member, prompting two crew members to be fired from the ship and the show, Captain Jason Chambers commends everyone involved.

“I want to thank the production team for breaking the fourth wall and stepping in, then reforming and allowing Aesha to come to me in an authentic way and for dealing with it the way we do as captain and crew would do,” he told a new video on his posted Instagram.
The incident in question occurred when the third stew Margot was helped to her bunk by Boatswain Luke after a night of drinking. When he climbed into her bed and lay behind her while she was practically passed out, the production stepped in.
Luke even went so far as to lock the door on the field producers and cameraman. They opened the door again to find him naked and closed it completely, after which Luke eventually stormed off. Chef Stew Aesha got in touch with Margot, who told her she was sleeping and “didn’t invite that at all.”

In his message, Jason told his followers, “I’ve had a flood of messages over the last 24 hours from people in similar situations, some of whom weren’t so lucky with the outcome, so I feel sympathy for them.”
He explained that he’s usually unaware of what his crew are up to when they go out. So unless it was so serious that the production would step in or a crew member would complain like Adam did in the same episode, he wouldn’t be aware of it.
Adam’s complaint was about the second stew Laura, who wouldn’t take no for an answer, even going so far as to follow him to his bunk and even give him an unwanted back rub. She was also told by the production to get out.
She later showed no sympathy for Margot’s trauma, instead expressing concern for Luke. Because of those two things, Jason fired her as well. You can find out all the details about the episode by clicking on the link below.

To Margot and Luke, Jason said, “When Aesha brought this to my attention, I immediately brought it up. So it’s real, it’s real time.”
The episode also presented it fairly unfiltered and straightforward in all of its awkward reality — a big part of why it’s resonated so well with viewers.
The captain closed his message on a positive and hopeful note. Note that the episode’s events, while fresh to viewers, actually happened a year ago.
“Hopefully the people involved are all on a better path to improve,” he noted, adding, “And please, less hate, more love.”
