Bicyclist dies after being hit by driver on Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police said a woman died after being hit by a driver while cycling Friday night.

It happened around 5:25 p.m. on the 1500 block of Colombus Blvd in South Philadelphia.

Police say Taing Sophy, 66, was riding a bicycle on Tasker Avenue when she was hit by the driver of a Toyota Corolla while turning onto Columbus Boulevard.

Sophy was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Saturday.

According to police, the driver stayed at the scene.

No charges were filed at this time.
