Biden to Visit Lockheed Plant as U.S. Ramps Up Javelin Production for Ukraine

President Biden is scheduled to visit on Tuesday Lockheed Martin Corp’s plant is in Troy, Ala., where the defense company is hunting for workers in the tightest job market in 50 years to assemble Javelin anti-tank missiles for Ukraine.

On the eve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and amid a national labor shortage, Lockheed offered to pay between $16 and $20 an hour for intern assembly workers at the factory and a $1,500 signing bonus. Contracts for college graduates with security permits are required for many positions, according to a job ad posted on Facebook Alabama Workforce Development Authority website.
