The Mandalorian Season 3. Bring it up to any Star Wars fan, and you’ll be met with excitement, speculation, and deep canon questions. Well, many of those questions were answered today at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California. But much like the fate of the planet Mandalore, the details are a mystery to those outside of these hallowed convention halls.
Thank God, Vice versa was in the room when producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni re-divided Mandalorian Details. They announced that the Disney+ series will return in February 2023 and debuted the first official footage from the upcoming season. Here’s a breakdown of what we saw – and what to look forward to in Season 3.
New Plot Details — Oddly enough, as fans precisely speculated, Season 3’s story would be based on it Mandalorian-centric sequence off Boba Fett’s book. Din Djarin was ousted from his Mandalorian sect, the Children of the Watch, for taking off his helmet. Now he wants to return to Mandalore and bathe in “the living waters” to forgive him his transgression.
But that’s not Din’s only problem. One trailer — a real blink-and-you-miss montage — teased many different scenes and characters, including Bo-Katan looking menacing on a throne while confronting Din about his unfinished business.
At the end of Season 2, Din Djarin successfully defeated Moff Gideon in battle, becoming the wielder of the Darksaber. Anyone who earns the Darksaber is also considered the leader of the Mandalorians. Unfortunately, Bo-Katan believes she is the Darksaber’s rightful wielder, as she has never hidden her ambitions to lead the people of Mandalore.
Mandalorian Season 3 Teasers — The montage not only showed Bo-Katan’s return, but also very short excerpts from other scenes. While it’s difficult to fully understand how they’ll play into the storyline, we break down what these moments could mean for Season 3.
- Katy O’Brian returns as Imperial communications officer. Her role was briefly in The Mandalorianbut it looks like she’ll be featured on the show in an Aaron Sorkin-style “walk and talk” sequence.
- Salacious B. Crumb lookalike: In a shot of a tree, a bunch of Kowakian monkey lizards are jumping around. The most famous of these creatures is Salacious Crumb, but these look wild and not domesticated. Could we visit her homeworld of Kowak in Season 3?
- Bo-Katan’s line to Grogu – “Do you think your father would be the only Mandalorian?” – proves that she believes the little creature to be Din’s rightful adopted son. So while she wants to defeat Din, at least she knows he’s a family man.
- Returning Faces – Greef Karga and Peli Motto both appear in the teaser, so The Mandalorian will definitely be back as good.
The Mandalorian Season 3 is bound to be an epic return for the series based on all the different elements this teaser trailer contains. Fans (who haven’t been to Star Wars Celebration) may have to wait a while to see it for themselves. But trust that the wait was more than worth it, because it really is great.
The Mandalorian Season 3 will premiere on Disney+ in February 2023.
